DICOM Archive
PACS Archive for Storage and Management of Medical Imaging Data...

Digital Solutions
With the advent of digital technology in recent years, (i.e. PACS, HIS, RIS, EMR and Practice Management Solutions, plus modalities such as CT, MR, US, NM, PET, DR, and CR) imaging and data solutions that were once the sole province of university medical centers and large IHN's and IDN's are now within budgetary reach of any facility. In addition, with ongoing cost reductions in electronic storage media, a digital solution can save your practice money by improving productivity, and in the future by saving precious square footage. Square footage that is currently used for medical records storage. From imaging centers to urgent care as well as private practice facilities in every clinical specialty, DICOM Distribution has a solution for you.

The Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) is premised on the same technology as most computers, except that its function is to serve as a depository/archive for medical images and information. The PACS archive includes images/studies form all digital modalities and other medical images, with the relevant patient information. Files are saved in DICOM format (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine). PACS viewers can access the archive and display the digital image file from any authorized workstation on the inter or intranet.
In the United States, most Practice Management Solutions are designed for small to medium-sized medical offices. Some of the software is designed for or used by third-party medical billing companies. PMS is often divided amongst desktop-only software, client-server software, or Internet-based software. PMS is a category of software that deals with the day-to-day operations of a medical practice. Such software frequently allows users to capture patient demographics, schedule appointments, maintain lists of insurance payers, perform billing tasks, and generate reports. This software can communicate with the PACS, RIS or the EMR system utilizing an HL-7 interface.
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software often runs in conjunction with PMS. While some information in a PMS and an EMR overlap — for example, patient and provider data — in general the EMR system is used for assisting the practice with clinical matters, while PMS is used for administrative and financial matters; EMR records may include a range of data such as patient demographics, medical history, laboratory test results, radiology images, and billing information. The integration of the EMR and PMS software via HL7 is considered one of the most challenging aspects of the medical practice management software implementation.
.Radiology Information System can be connected to EMR and/or Practice Management Solutions or it can stand alone. A (RIS) is a computerized database used by radiology departments to store, manipulate and distribute patient radiological data and imagery. The system generally consists of patient tracking and scheduling, result reporting and image tracking capabilities. The RIS can draw patient demographics to facilitate the worklist for the PACS. With a bi-directional flow of information, the RIS can enable electronic claim submission, remittance and eligibility verification. DICOM Distribution offers multiple RIS solutions. Let us tailor a system to meet your needs.

With a wide variety of archive solutions available through DICOM Distribution, the decision for the best archive for your facility should be based on factors such as volume, speed, security and cost, while meeting the HIPAA mandate for disaster recovery .
